All you need is five ingredients and five minutes to make the most delicious homemade gluten free corn tortillas. They are 3,000 times better than store-bought. To be honest, I use store-bought all the time for the convenience factor. But there really is no comparison in flavor and texture to these homemade corn tortillas. You can find Masa Harina, the star of the show, in most grocery stores or on Amazon. As far as making the tortillas, I highly recommend investing in a cast iron tortilla press like this one I have on Amazon. You'll have it forever! You can also use a rolling pin or flatten them out with your hand. I love to use mine for taco night, dipped in my Fire Roasted Tortilla Soup or by themself with some salted butter.
What You'll Need:
• 1 cup Masa Harina
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 tsp olive oil or Avocado Oil
• 1 - 1.5 cup warm water
• Olive Oil or Avocado Oil (for your pan)
• Splash of lime juice (optional)
How To:
≥≥ In a bowl, add your masa, salt, olive oil, splash of lime if you have it, and your warm water. I like to add my water in increments of half cups until it's the consistency I'm looking for. Mix together until you have dough that is similar to play dough.
≥≥ Create small golf-ball sized dough balls and press in between your tortilla press. I like to put mine in between parchment paper so it makes the tortilla press easier to clean and easier to transfer the tortillas to a skillet.
≥≥ Over medium high heat, cook the tortillas in a pan with a little oil. It only takes a minutes or two per side.
